Valentine’s Day cards

Yes,  I know I’m beyond a day late and a dollar short, but I wanted to post the Valentine’s Day cards I did.  Unfortunately, I sold 1 all season….. so I am stocked for next year. I used a mish mash of products, from recollections paper, to Memory Box, Quickkutz, Quietfire Designs, Simon Says Stamp, Sizzix dies, to some long forgotten PSX, Hero Arts, Quietfire Designs, and some unknown stamps. Inks are Palette, Hero Arts and Colorbox Frost White.

The Use Your Paper Challenge

OK, so I’ve been doing some wedding invitations (I won’t post those til after the ceremony, in case someone decides to crash the party), and then, on Pintrest one day, I found a blog. This lady, Kristie, has a unique way of using up paper. She buys 6×6 inch pads, and uses the entire pad on as many cards as she can make, then will buy another one when she needs more cards.  Her blog is here: Using up 6×6 Paper Pads

I took this challenge… and LOVE the results. I have always been a bit afraid to use a lot of patterned paper on a card, mostly because as a stamper, to NOT do a lot of stamping on a card seems wrong.. but I worked around my notions, and ended up with some really lovely cards that I am happy with.  I have enough paper left from the two packs I used (They were big paper packs, so I did 1/2 a pack at a time). The pictures below show a sample of what I made.

I used a Penny  Black paper pad, and a Recollections paper pad for the cards. I threw in a bit of SU paper for accents, when I couldn’t find the perfect paper to match.  My biggest problem with this challenge, is to find a variety of card sketches that use up different sizes of paper.. I struggled with this.

Thanks for having a boo today 🙂

Cards Made at Retreat

Yes, I know I am really behind in posting… a couple of things.. One, I have been trying to use the WordPress app on my tablet to post, and NOTHING IS WORKING WITH IT!!!! Doesn’t matter what I do, even though I am linked to my app, I can’t seem to get photos uploaded, or posts actually posted.. they all seem to get saved as drafts, then they don’t show up on the desktop version.  Two, life has been a bit crazy around here (I know, not unusual), but my SIL is very ill and has been in the hospital nearly 2 months now, and I don’t think the doctors know what’s going on… symptoms of stuff, yes, but what is actually happening, I have no idea.

So, this will be 1 of a few blog posts that have what I’ve created in the last 3 months or so here, starting with the annual retreat I’ve been going to for the last 2 years.  It’s a weekend away, affordable for me and a TON OF FUN.  This year, instead of trying to figure out what to do, I decided to focus on Christmas cards… Yep, the retreat was in May, and I was working on CHRISTMAS CARDS. I got more done than I thought I’d get, but I think that was from pre-planning and taking my projects with me.  Below are the cards that I made at retreat.  I used some Memory Box stamps and dies, Quietfire Design stamps, Simon Says Stamp Dies, SU paper and stamps, Sizzix Tattered Poinsettia die. 2014.05.24 CHRISTMAS CARDS MADE AT RETREAT 04 2014.05.24 CHRISTMAS CARDS MADE AT RETREAT 2014.05.24 CHRISTMAS CARDS MADE AT RETREAT 07 IMG_1015 2014.05.024 CARDS MADE AT RETREAT(NON CHRISTMAS) 2014.05.24 CHRISTMAS CARDS MADE AT RETREAT 02 2014.05.24 CHRISTMAS CARDS MADE AT RETREAT 03 2014.05.24 CHRISTMAS CARDS MADE AT RETREAT 05 2014.05.24 CHRISTMAS CARDS MADE AT RETREAT 06

I got to try The Stampin Up Blendabilities at retreat.  I can totally see why people love their alcohol based markers.  The layering of colour that you can do is amazing.  The card with the vases, I coloured with the Blendabilities.  Now, being on a tight, limited budget, I myself am not going to be purchasing the alcohol markers…. if money was “no object” so to speak, I think I would invest in some of the alcohol markers.. now, whether I do SU, or Spectrum Noir or Copics, I have no clue, as I haven’t tried the Copics or Spectrum Noir markers.  But, I’d be willing to try them out.

As for cards, a quick rundown on them. The poinsettia wreath stamp and die is Memory Box, coloured with Distress Markers (Festive Berries and Evergreen Bough). The second picture is SU paper, a Simon Says Stamp die for the banner, and Quietfire Design “Christmas” and SU “Noel”. The third picture is SU Calm Christmas and World Map stamp sets. Fourth picture is the vases card, then some SU Simply Sketches flowers, coloured with Distress markers.

Sixth is a square blue card with some patterned paper on it, and a Quietfire Design “Hold on to the Spirit of Christmas” stamp, seventh is more SU Christmas paper with the Simon Says Stamp die and the Quietfire Designs “Christmas” on the banner. The eighth and ninth pictures are the same card.. one is done in cream, the other in silver.  Recollections paper, with a Tattered Poinsettia on it, and a Quietfire sentiment on the top right.

Thanks for looking, have a great day 🙂

CASEing Kathy R (The Daily Marker)

2014.01.15 HUGS CARD 04 2014.01.15 HUGS CARD 03 2014.01.15 HUGS CARD 02 2014.01.15 HUGS CARD 01I  was TOTALLY inspired by Kathy R with her blog post HERE:  I just just received the Simon Says Stamp exclusive die HUGS from an order, and when I saw what Kathy did with it, I had to CASE it.  The above 4 photos are my CASEing of the original card.  CASE, is Copy and Share Everything, BUT, IMO you MUST give credit to the original designer.. not everyone does that sadly.

My take on these cards was, instead of making my own patterned paper to die cut from, use patterned paper cut to card front size.  I also added some stamping to all the cards.  The top and bottom photos have stamps from Hero Arts on them, and the cards second from the top have a Simon Says Stamp exclusive stamp (Chevron heart), a Neat and Tangled stamp (Love You), and a Tim Holtz stamp (3 hearts together).  I did end up adding sentiments to the cards in the third photo.. I added “I love you” and “You are Awesome” from Neat and Tangled.
